Making Changes

It is likely that you will need to make some modifications to your plan of study as you progress through your major. It is extremely important, however, when making changes, to maintain the thematic and disciplinary balance of your approved plan of study. In other words, to make sure that the major does not become skewed towards one theme or too heavily dependent on courses from a single department.

In the case of relatively small changes (such as the inclusion of one or two courses consistent with your plan of study):

  • Discuss these changes with the IISP Director and your primary faculty advisor and obtain their approval before you enroll in the course.
  • Consult with your second and/or third faculty advisor and obtain their approval if the changes are in their field.
  • Fill in out a Change in Plan form, and obtain the signatures of your advisor(s). Please read the instructions on the form carefully before you submit!

In the case of substantive changes to the plan of study or alterations to the concept of your major, you will need to obtain the approval of the Individualized Major Advisory and Admissions Committee. Consult with the director about the steps you need to take.
