It is likely that you will need to make some modifications to your plan of study as you progress through your major. It is extremely important, however, when making changes, to maintain the thematic and disciplinary balance of your approved plan of study. In other words, to make sure that the major does not become skewed towards one theme or too heavily dependent on courses from a single department.
In the case of relatively small changes (such as the inclusion of one or two courses consistent with your plan of study):
- You must discuss these changes with the IISP Director and your primary advisor and obtain their approval before you enroll in the course.
- You must consult with your second and/or third advisor and obtain his/her approval if the changes are in his/her field.
- You must fill in a Change in Plan form, and obtain the signatures of your advisor(s) and submit the form to the Enrichment Programs office in Rowe 419.
- Your final plan of study will not be approved by the IISP office unless all the changes are approved and recorded on the Change in Plan of Study form.

In the case of substantive changes to the plan of study or alterations to the concept of your major, you will need to obtain the approval of the Individualized Major Advisory and Admissions Committee. Consult with the director about the steps you need to take.
