Indie Major: Gabby DiSalvo

Individualized Major: Disability Studies in Media and Food Culture

Graduation Date: May 2026

Why Individualized? With goals that are so specific and unique, most traditional majors wouldn't be able to encompass all of them in an existing plan of study. Disability Studies has always been the main focus of my work, and since UConn doesn't offer this major, it made perfect sense for me to go the Individualized route.

Future Plans? I'm not completely sure of my plans after graduation yet. Honestly, that's one of the challenges of pursuing an individualized major and essentially creating your own career path — there isn't a set plan like there is for some traditional majors. However, I am exploring the options of attending culinary school or working in the field of communications, such as food blog writing. Whatever I decide, I know my long-term goal is to have my own cooking show (hopefully on Food Network) someday.
